The Lulla Doll as seen on The Today Show

Push the chest for 2 seconds to turn the sound on/off. The sound turns off automatically in 8 hours. It resets every time you push it off/on.
The doll can be placed with or near the child to give a feeling of closeness and comfort and to help the child fall asleep as well as stay asleep. Keep the doll close to your skin before giving it to the child. That way the doll can absorb your scent to give the child an added feeling of comfort and safety.

The neutral look and colors of the Lulla doll were chosen to make it a suitable companion for all children, regardless of gender and race.

Firstly, please let me make you aware of safe sleep guidelines. The Lulla Doll is AUST/NZ safety approved and has been thoroughly safety tested to be suitable for babies from birth. The whole design was made with safety in mind. The doll is very light, made from natural materials, has no loose items nor toxic chemicals. The sound is set at a safe volume of 65db but is clearly audible even from a short distance. The benefits of the doll can be experienced even though the doll is placed away from the baby.

️Pediatric guidelines all over the world do not recommend that caregivers have loose items in the babies sleep environment from birth to 12 months. With this is mind the Lulla doll is designed to be a cot-attachment, with velcro straps located in the back pocket for easy attachment to most cots, car seats, strollers and other carriers.

️We strongly recommend that from birth to 12 months the doll is kept away from the face and is not loose in the crib during sleep.

️Both the purpose and the design of the Lulla Doll differs from other seemingly similar products. The purpose of most other sleep related toys is to help babies fall asleep with the help of white noise, sometimes resembling womb sounds.
The Lulla Doll, on the other hand, is designed to help babies stay asleep for longer periods at a time, and to help babies stabilize and feel safe. It is imitating closeness to another person, more than trying to replicate the womb experience. The doll aims to do this with its unique real-life sounds that play for 8 hours. Other products only stay on for 15-45 minutes (or are movement activated), and the sounds are often not real-life.

️There is no right way or wrong way to introduce your Lulla Doll to your little one, but some tips from our resident Sleep Consultant may just be what you need to tame the more difficult sleeper!

️It is important to wear your Lulla Doll to make her nice and Mummy smelly, or Daddy if you prefer! Lulla’s material was especially selected by our Icelandic mums to absorb your smells more readily. We recommend sleeping with Lulla for a night to accomplish this.

️Remember! Lulla needs to be pressed for 3 secs to activate/deactivate the sounds
Lulla will seem quieter during daylight hours and louder during night time hours, especially if you have a noisy house full of kids during daylight hours like me!

️Introducing 0-4 months
At this age, it is very simple to introduce Lulla. The aim is for Lulla to become a positive sleep association for your baby. Regardless of whether they are crying or not, simply have Lulla switched on during your normal bedtime routine i.e patting, rocking, feeding or cuddling. Be consistent with your approach and use the Lulla Doll for every nap/sleep. Although, we see instant success so often, some babies may take a little longer and we suggest being consistent with your Lulla Doll routine for a month or more.
Lulla is very special because the heart beat and breathing play for 8 hours. All babies sleep in cycles of approx 20-50 mins. “Good Sleepers” can resettle themselves but quite often a baby will seek the initial sleep cues that put them to sleep. We want Lulla to become that sleep cue, so although you may not be there, or the rocking may be gone, Lulla’s sounds, smell and touch (if they are old enough to cuddle) will still be there. Many other sleep aids turn off after 30 minutes, just when your baby is transitioning to their next sleep cycle and why it is so important that the Lulla sounds play right through their sleep cycles until they fall into a deeper sleep. Lulla plays for 8 hours continuously and can be reset before you go off to bed by switching off and then back on.

️Introducing from 6 months on
The most crucial factor during this age is to take your time! I know it’s very tempting to grab Lulla straight from the mail box and straight into your baby’s bed (especially if you are in a deprived state of sleep) but unfortunately your baby is more likely to see Lulla as being a replacement for mum at bedtime and maybe resentful of Lulla for this reason. This is called a negative sleep association and we don’t want Lulla to be associated with big changes to your baby’s sleep routine

️Initially, introduce Lulla to your little one with NO sounds, during playtime, when your baby is happy and more willing to accept and bond with Lulla. Encourage cuddling, dressing, wrapping, and general role playing to encourage this bonding.
After 1-2 days and longer if you feel your baby/toddler needs more time, turn Lulla’s sounds on and make lots of fuss about how beautiful Lulla sounds. Ohhhh and Aahhh and make your baby see just how special you think Lulla is.

️Now it’s time to introduce Lulla at night time as part of your normal bedtime routine ie reading or laying with your baby. Talk to your toddler about what Lulla is for and how Lulla will look after them at night time. It’s amazing just how much our little ones understand when being spoken to, even if they can’t express themselves fully. When you feel that your little one is very confident and secure with Lulla, you can start to slowly transition away before your little one is asleep. This transition may also take a little time to complete so be patient!

Yes.

For general purposes we recommend machine washing the Lulla doll at 40 degrees celsius (warm) and hang to dry. The soundbox must be removed prior to washing, which is easily done as it is placed in a velcro pocket on the back of the doll.

We recommend using a washing bag and going easy on the spinning. If necessary, gently readjust the filling after washing to help the doll regain its former shape. For added safety for the most sensitive children, the Lulla doll can be washed at 60 degrees Celsius (hot) to eliminate most bacteria.

Keep in mind that repeated washing at high temperature might affect the dolls appearance.

The Lulla doll is thoroughly safety tested to be suitable for newborns. Lulla is Aust/NZ safety approved.  However, it is not recommended to have loose items in a crib with a sleeping newborn from birth to 12 months. Because of this the doll is also designed to be a crib-attachment, with velcro straps hidden in a pocket on its back for easy attachment to most cribs, car seats, strollers and other carriers.

The volume of the sound is 65dB making it safe for babies sensitive hearing.

Check this:

1. Did you initially remove the plastic strip attached to the battery compartment? ok great, what about…

2. Did you hold the button down for two seconds to activate the sound? nothing happening?…

3. Does she need a new set of batteries? still not working..hmmm…

4. Please try another fresh set of batteries – you could be dealing with bad batteries. And finally…

5. Try to roll your finger over the new batteries, moving them a little. This could help the springs that touch the negative side of the batteries catch their grip.

If nothing works please contact us here.
Our warranty is 6 months for faulty dolls. If your doll is within the warranty period please return the faulty item to us and we will send you a new one.

Batteries are not included in the new shipments. The doll uses two AAA batteries.

Many sleep toys are sound or motion activated with the purpose of helping babies fall back asleep if they wake up during the night.

We want to help babies not to wake up as frequently and also to help them keep their heartbeat and breathing more stable during sleep. This is achieved by having the sound on continuously.

Babies and children wake up and seek the same sleep cue they went to sleep with. It is one of the things that make the Lulla Doll so different. White noise that is activated once the baby wakes and cries is too late. By then your little one has fully woken and it’s really hard to come down from that. Lulla gets them when they are in the semi-responsive state and gives them the confidence to self settle themselves when they hear her reassuring heartbeat and breathing, just like they would do when they co-sleep on you or with you.

Both the purpose and the design of the Lulla Doll differs from other seemingly similar products.

Other products only stay on for 15-45 minutes (or are movement activated), the sound file is not this large and the sounds are often not real-life.

The Lulla doll is suitable from birth. However, it is not recommended to have loose items in a crib with a sleeping newborn from birth to 12 months. Because of this the doll is also designed to be a crib-attachment, with velcro straps hidden in a pocket on its back for easy attachment. Many people are using the doll for older children who are faced with troubles sleeping or calming down. We even heard about a few parents that like to use the sound to help them fall asleep and we had reports of the doll helping dads to stop snoring! Elderly people with Alzheimer’s have also used the doll for added comfort.

We have had many reports from parents who use it with good success with older children who have trouble calming down, falling asleep or sleeping by themselves. Older children can face a lot of sleep related challenges as well as newborns, just of a different kind. Like switching to a bigger bed, sleeping in their own room, sleeping outside of the home overnight, and going to daycare. In these cases the Lulla Doll can help to make them feel calmer and safer.

Yes it can. Although, when using motion sensor pads, such as Angel Care, we recommend that the sensitivity is tested with the doll alone, where it will be situated with the baby during sleep.

Lulla emits sounds of a heart beating which generates small movements. This can be detected by motion sensor pads if they are set to the highest sensitivity and the doll is situated directly on the sensor pad. However, pediatric guidelines recommend to parents to not have anything loose in the baby’s sleep environment before the age of 12 months. Therefore, the Lulla doll has velcro straps and can be attached to the crib or be placed outside the crib.

The sound-box uses two AAA batteries. We recommend using rechargeable batteries to help protect our environment. Two AAA alkaline batteries can last for up to 120 hours in the Lulla doll.

The time duration depends heavily on the quality of the batteries and the difference can be up to 85%! Better quality batteries cost more but then again they are more reliable and last for longer. Rechargeable batteries do not last as long as they are 1.2V (regulars are 1.5V). But you can use them over and over again making them the best long term investment. Also keep in mind that batteries are sensitive, they need to be stored properly and can get damaged with age and rechargeable batteries can loose their capacity with repeated use.

Here are a few brands of alkalines that have gotten great customer ratings for long lasting performance, in parentheses we included their top brand types :

Duracell (Quantum, Copper Top, Ultra Power),

Panasonic (Evolta, Pro Power),

Energizer (Eco Advanced is their longest lasting alkaline)

In every test we found of rechargeable batteries Panasonic Eneloop stands out as a top performer. There are a lot of chargers on the market and, as with batteries, quality varies a lot. The best inexpensive charger we could find was also the Panasonic Eneloop charger- you can even buy it in a bundle at Amazon.

The doll is designed and engineered in Iceland and manufactured by hand in China.

Because the dolls are handmade, there are slight variations in the shape of the dolls. We carefully chose skilled manufacturer to make our Lulla dolls and we chose natural materials and good quality parts to go inside the sound unit for better sound and longer playing time than most other toys.

Overseeing our production is a Canadian company who have worked in the toy industry for over 20 years. Our manufacturers are inspected regularly by a third party inspection agency and have all the necessary standards in place.

The doll itself is also thoroughly safety tested by a third party international company.
